NAFP Monthly Meeting Minutes

At The Food Processing Center, UNL

6PM – 7:30PM

 

President Jill Kuzo opened the meeting with a brief explanation of the mission and purpose of the NAFP.  One of the goals for the group is to expand enough to gain membership by other food related organizations so that joint meetings can be held .  The purpose is to expand the opportunities for information sharing and collaboration.

 

Dr. Jayne Stratton, Research Assistant Professor and Microbiology Lab Manager at The Food Processing Center, presented a brief history of The Food Processing Center, then more specifically about the microbiological testing that her lab does.  Jayne also gave an overview of current research projects and grants that she is collaborating on.

 

Dr. Andreia Bianchini, Research Assistant Professor, presented brief descriptions of The Food Processing Center’s new initiatives, then focused on the Safety Initiatives:  becoming an SQF Training Center and Companion Animal Wellness through Food Safety Strategies.

 

Additionally, she gave an overview of the workshop scheduled for June 29, 2010 to address Molds and Mycotoxins in Stored Grains.

 

After the presentations, Jill asked the attendees to introduce themselves as there are always new members.

 

The May meeting minutes were reviewed with future goals identified.  The July meeting will be held at ConAgra headquarters in Omaha.  The specific building and agenda will be posted on the NAFP website.  There will be no August meeting due to the IAFP national meeting in Anaheim, CA on August 2 – 3, 2010.

 

The meeting was closed with a tour of The Food Processing Center facilities.
